Course Overview

Duration: A 1 day classroom based course.

Previous experience required: None.

Content: This first aid course covers the usual first aid subjects but puts it into context from a boating perspective. Subjects specific to boating include :

  • Recovery position in a confined space.
  • CPR including the drowning protocol.
  • Cold shock from immersion or exposure.
  • Hypothermia from immersion or exposure.
  • Seasickness.
  • Dehydration.
  • Medical assistance or advice by VHF.
  • Helicopter rescue.

At the end of the course the student will be awarded a RYA First Aid Certificate with Category C endorsement.

The course
  • The aim of this First Aid course is to give you working knowledge of first aid for people using small craft and to support skippers
  • There is no exam for this course just student participation and a certificate awarded for completion
